REAR STOP/TURN/NUMBERPLATE LIGHTS
![]()
I bought my rear stop and turn lights from Parallel which are the genuine Lambo ones. I must admit I actually prefer the later 'VT' style lights which are smaller (the original Diablo ones are huge!) but at the time of writing Parallel were only able to supply the replica light surrounds for the earlier ones. Rather then try and mess about trying to get the smaller lights to fit the early surrounds I just went for the right lights. They come with all the proper electrical connectors on them but I ended up cutting them all off as the Parallel loom does not come with any of the original connections for the lights due to some customers finding alternative lights.
The rear light surrounds also came from Parallel and are pretty much identical to the originals. Obviously they should be as the mould was taken from a genuine Diablo but at £76 a pair instead of £300 they are much more favourably priced. Actually, I prefer the Parallel ones anyway as they will be finished in satin black. The early Diablo lights were actually a reflective dull red-coloured plastic which looked pretty crap in my opinion. The pic of the surrounds above is how I received them- they were yet to be painted.
The nearside surround needed 'fettling' to clear the radiator and radiator fan. The offside was very close but OK. I will get the bodyshop to fit the light surrounds as the join line is far from good. Theres no way you could simply bond them in and get anything like a nice job so I'll have to leave it to the 'boys who know'. Bit of a pain really as I didn't think I would have any problem with fitting them myself and now I need to pay someone else to do it. Oh well, what price perfection?
NUMBERPLATE LIGHTS

I put these under 'rear lights' as there really isn't enough to say about them to make a specific page for it. I bought my ones from Parallel (not cheap at £39 a pair!) which as far as I know are the same as the originals. You may be able to find a cheaper alternative but theres not a lot of room to play with around the mounting area so I couldn't be bothered. The one thing that really annoys me about them is the fact that they are silver/chrome, which really has no place on a car like this. Thankfully you don't see much of them when fitted, as they look like they have come off a 1940 Austin. They are made by Hella and it has to be said most of their stuff looks 'Olde Worlde' to me. Jeez, they even use festoon bulbs which I thought went out with the Ark.
The job is pretty much how you see it- you will need to make two rectangular slots in the body to slip them in to. As when making any hole, cut the slots smaller than necessary to start with and open them out to suit.
Before final fit, make sure that the lights are central- I measured from either end of the right-angled recess in the body to the centre of the lights and came up with 19cm on both so luckily I was spot on even by eye.
The lights come without bulbs so you'll need two of those (5 watt) and also I assume that the original car doesn't have the earth problem. These lights use the body as the earth which obviously we can't do so you'll need to rig remote earth leads for them and pick up off the main rear lights. To do this I just self-tapped straight into the rear of the body and used a ring terminal (the pics above do not show this). To mount the lights, I just drilled a pilot hole then screwed them directly to the body using self-tappers.
