Underside of bonnet- arghh!! No steel in my bloody bonnet - not in the correct place at least. Nothing for it but a cut and shut job. Note the filler. Viewed: 850 times.

| Open front boot-Front boot showing brackets (note white filler where I found NO metal and needed to glass new in)... Viewed: 948 times.

| Bonnet in situ-Front Boot lid in Situ. This is where my nightmare began. Once the boot seal was added, the boot lifted up 1/4inch with no way of going down. - argh.... Viewed: 754 times.
|
| Underside of bonnet work-One cause of the boot issue is that the underside is of various thicknesses. I had to grind this off first to at least get it level. It now needs major repair and filling. Grrrrr. Viewed: 696 times.

| Underside of front boot-I'm STILL working on the damn front boot issue. Yet more sanding to get it to fit better and even all the way round. At least I can close it now over the rubber without it being 10mm above the wing! Viewed: 689 times.

Bonnet full of holes-Part of the problem is the boot lid is hollow and distorts. I cut holes and filled with foam for more rigidity Viewed: 727 times.

| Front Boot Opening- With the front boot fitted I noticed a future problem... the opening gap at the top edge didn't allow for much to clear the wiper.. this would need fixing. Viewed: 37 times.
|
| Front nearside mounting for Front Boot lid- The trouble with the wiper clearence for front boot lid resided with the supplied hinges and mounting locations seen here- They didn't provide a wide enough arc to clear the wiper so they had to be replaced. Viewed: 45 times.
|
| Front Boot Hinges- after fitting the supplied hinges with the kit I noted that there was not alot of room to clear the wiper assembly on opening- true to form when I got my wiper it wouldn't clear it. I bought original hinges and modified them with a slight bend here to fit my chassis to give me a bigger opening angle.... Viewed: 42 times.
|
| Front Boot Hinges...Mountings- I needed to pass the hinges through the bulkhead to obtain the correct opening arc for the front boot. I held them in place and then welded in mounting locations. Note they are not straight. Works now though....:-) Viewed: 47 times.

Front Boot Latch- showing positioning of the front boot latch assembly. I needed to space the catch with 4 washers to get the correct fitment. Viewed: 50 times.
|
| Front Boot Catch. I didn't have a front boot catch and the angle of everything I tried was wrong so I made my own. I first took a Toyota MR2 Mk2 rear boot catch, cut off the catch itself and drilled the mounting plate at an angle. I then bent 6mm round steel bar to the correct shape and welded this to the remaining mounting plate.I needed an additional spacer made from 3mm steel plate to complete. I wanted an authentic look and I think I've achieved what I set out for with this set up. Viewed: 53 times.

| Bonnet/Front boot fitted- Many hours later and it now fits. Filled, sanded and filler primed.

| Front Boot Opening- Finally when fitted the latch works correctly and the whole lid now lifts up on the OEM hinges high enough to clear any wiper. The hinge passes neatly through the boot lining on its arc without too big a hole need. I'm very pleased with the result. I may yet add a second gas ram for a truly authentic look. Viewed: 61 times.

Front Boot lid- A little fetteling was needed to get the panel gaps correct all the way down and I had to build up the top to match the wing and shave off some from the front edge to stop it petruding over the bumper and causing a shadow. Basically work on all edges then! Now I'm happy at last. Viewed: 24 times.

| Front Boot Panneling - I made up some fibreglass side pannels to blank off the front boot from the headlight area and form a seal. I'll eventually cover these in carpet when I trim the area. A little tip here, the panel is not flat (curved inwards towards the headlight from the boot) I found the easiest way to achieve this was to make up a template of the shape first, lay a sheet of fibreglass, and cut this whilst still curing known as the (green) stage. Bend and hold in position till cured. Viewed: 23 times.

| Front Boot lock cover- I also made up a curved section to hide the unsightly lock area. This will be removable and also trimmed. Still learning....I experimented with pigment here hence the black colour before working on moulds for the engine bay (see other album). Viewed: 24 times.

| Second Gas Ram- I previously said I might add a second gas ram. Well, as you can see, I did. Though not strictly necessary the orginal had two and I wanted it looking the same. It did mean adding some metal on the other side of the lid to mount the bracket, but what the hell, I've come this far! I'm glad that I decided to do it as the boot now opens much smoother as its supported on both sides and the force of the ram pressure is spread evenly. Viewed: 42 times.
